About

Dr. Markus Kamieth is CEO of BASF SE, the world’s largest chemical company based in Ludwigshafen, Germany. Markus Kamieth was born in Dinslaken, Germany, in 1970. He studied chemistry at the University of Essen, where he obtained his doctorate in organic chemistry. He joined BASF in 1999, initially conducting research in the field of speciality chemicals. This was followed by several positions in Germany and abroad, including as Senior Vice President of the Performance Chemicals North America unit. In 2012, he assumed global responsibility for the Coatings division. Markus Kamieth has been a member of BASF’s Board of Executive Directors since 2017. As of 2020, he was based in Hong Kong, where he managed the company’s Asia activities. In April 2024, Markus Kamieth became Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors (CEO) of BASF SE.

If Markus Kamieth is asked why he is fascinated by the chemical industry, he responds:
“Chemistry has fascinated me since my high school days. As a scientist, I have a natural curiosity and a drive to explore new horizons. Throughout my career, I have consistently strived to make changes for the better. The chemical industry will play a key role in driving positive change and, at BASF, we have an exceptionally strong team that can deliver the solutions our customers need.
